News Round Up – Wednesday 3rd January, 2018

Happy New Year Fam!

I hope everyone had an awesome time catching up with family and friends over the Christmas and New Year break.

It’s back to the grind for me with my normal job and also planning on launching the clothing side of Rugby Woman NZ in the next few weeks, so that’s exciting and something I’m looking forward too.

The news round up for the last few weeks has been quite promising for the women’s game.

  • Star Black Fern Portia Woodman made Planet Rugby World XV, check out the list here
  • She also made the All Blacks website NZ Form XV along with three other Black Ferns. See the list here
  • Selica Winata has joined the coaching panel for the inargual IRANZ Women’s Player Course. See all the details here
  • The Black Ferns Haka against the USA at the 2017 Rugby World Cup managed dominate the social media on the World Rugby website and was viewed over 21 million (!) times. If you haven’t seen it yet go have a look here
  • The Black Ferns capped off the year by being named The New Zealand Heralds New Zealander of the Year, a well deserved accolade for the team. Check out all the details here
  • The NZ National Sevens will be taking place on Sat 13 and Sun 14 of January (that’s next weekend!) in Rotorua and the draw for both days has been announced. We will be covering the event here at Rugby Women NZ. Here’s the schedule.
  • Still on the NZ National Sevens, they will be moving to a new location and time of year from 2018. Check it out here
  • Also ScrumQueens had their annual awards for women’s rugby and New Zealand won big. Check out all the winners here

Also coming up at the end of January is the second leg to the HSBC Sevens World Series in Sydney, Australia. The pool and draw have been released for the Women’s Competition and it looks like a tough go for everyone involved. I’ll have our page up before kick off and will also try and get a link to where everyone can watch it live.

I’ll keep everything up to date and also the very first newsletter will be sent out on the 10th of January (and the 10th of each month after that).
